First MAC lipstick- Girl About Town

*Why does Blogger  hate to centre everything for me?!*

Please excuse this unnecessary amount of photos. I was so excited about my first MAC lipstick, I took millions of photos and now don't have the heart not to publish them all! Let's get straight to the point, I love MAC Girl About Town! My sister bought me it for Christmas and it is what I would call your standard fuchsia pink. She did a great job choosing as I would have picked this colour myself!

It's an amplified creme lipstick, which is one of MAC's various finishes. Amplified finishes are meant to be packed with colour and creamy and I would definitely agree with that. You can barely brush this lipstick against your lips without getting some form of colour! It's a dream to wear as the creaminess is really comfortable. It's weird to describe a lipstick as comfortable but some have that not-so-great feeling (anyone know what I'm talking about?) and this doesn't have that. It glides on effortlessly and feels quite moisturising actually.

I can't comment too much on wear time as I've only just brought myself to swatch it, let alone wear it outside! I have worn it around the house once or twice however and the wear time is average; two to three hours. I think for how creamy this lipstick is, I'm quite impressed as I have others of a similar finish and majority of the colour comes off as soon as your lips touch anything.

Topshop's Beatnik lipstick

Bad quality lip picture...sorry!

I absolutely couldn't resist getting my bobble hat in this picture!

Oh my gosh, I'm in love again. I've realised that with almost every lipstick I buy, I say I'm in love but with this one, I really do know true love. I've had it two days, it has passed the reapplication test (I'm so bad for reapplying my lipstick, yet find myself reapplying this at least three times a day) and there is a visible dent in it already. I. Love. It. Let's get onto what 'it' is...

Beatnik is a gorgeous dusky pink (or as Topshop call it 'dirty pink') from Topshop's creamy finish range of lipsticks. It has a slight berry-ish tone to it which is why I think it suits me so well. A lot of my lighter pinks are sometimes a bit too pink. It glides on beautifully and lasts well, despite the horrendous lip marks on my coffee cup!

This lipstick was £8, which I think is really affordable and such great value for what you're getting. A super wearable shade!

What's your favourite lipstick? I feel like I'm cheating on Autumn with such an unseasonal shade!

Collection Cream Puff in Cotton Candy

Seems like I'm going through phases with products. Nail varnishes last week, lip products this week...

Let's address the elephant in the room. This lip cream smells of Flump!! I was impressed when THIS MUA product smelt of liquorice but this smell is the next level! Anyway about the actual product..

I think the name of this is deceiving, when I think of Cotton Candy, I think baby pink. This is more of 'your lips but more pink in a good way' purple undertoned pink (if that makes any sense to anyone but me!). It's been floating around the blogosphere that this is a dupe for something from Mac. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is what pushed me to pick it up. I haven't actually tried anything from Mac (shock horror) but a drugstore dupe for such an esteemed brand, I was intrigued. 

As you can see, it's described to have a matt finish. This tends to discourage me as I hate the fact matt products make it hard to rub your lips together. When I first applied this, I hated it for just that reason. The colour (I'm in love) however made me persevere and I'm glad I did. There's no need for me to rub my lips together so I don't. Problem solved! The wear time on this is good, which I would put down to it being a matt product. Even after a couple of hours, with eating and drinking, there was still remants of it there. Extra bonus points in my book for the fact it wore evenly. I cannot stand how a bad wearing lipstick looks!



Rant over! Have you tried any of these lip creams? I'm tempted to get another but I'm unsure of the shade selection?

MUA PowerPout

In my bid to find a cheaper version of the the Bourjois Colour Boost, I came across this MUA Power Pout. Both of these are tinted balms in crayon form. I love the idea of this as its a fuss free lip colour, no where near as bold as a lipstick and perfect for those "no make up make up"days or ones where you don't have time to maintain a lip colour.

The colour I have here is Broken Hearted. It's what I'd call a 'middle' pink. Not baby pink, not fuchsia, just a sheer, somewhere in the middle. It's not majorly pigmented but being a tinted balm you wouldn't expect this. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the pigmentation as I was expecting hardly any colour at all, due to it being so cheap. It has a liquorice like smell to it, which I don't dislike, much better than the signature 'cheap make up' smell. The feel on the lips is quite creamy which is nice as I sometimes find cheaper products can be drying. The only disadvantage would be the limited colour range, it's your typical pink, orange, brown and berry, saying that however Boujois' selection isn't much better, worse in fact (3 shades I believe). Also the wear, it needs reapplying, but again being a balm you expect this.

All in all, I think these are a great cheap alternative to Bourjois' offerings, although it wouldn't surprise me if I caved and bought one anyway! (Fuchsia Libre if you're wondering)

Bourjois Lipstick Review

Hey guys!

Here is the comparative lipstick review I promised of the Bourjois lipsticks! I thought I'd make this post a little different and have 4 sections. The sections are formulation, colour, packaging and price.

Formulation:

The formulation of both lipsticks is really nice. They're both highly pigmented and aren't drying. I do find with the Rouge Edition Fuschia Graffiti 07 though, that if you don't have a balm on underneath it, it tends to settle into the creases of the lips, unlike Sweet Kiss.

Colour:

I love the colour of both these lipsticks! Sweet Kiss is more on the purpley pink side, with a "my lips but better" feel. Fuschia Graffiti is a bright pop of pink with blue undertones which give it a shimmery look without actual shimmer.

Packaging:

I really dislike the packaging of Sweet Kiss. It has a slide up button which pops the lid off. This looks cheap and it also means that the lid sometimes comes off in your handbag. Not ideal! On the other hand, I love the packaging of Fuschia Graffiti, I think it looks really sleek and elegant in a simple way.

Price:

I'm unable to tell you the price of Sweet Kiss as it was a gift, however I purchased Fuschia Graffiti in my local Superdrug for £7.99. I think for a lipstick, this is quite affordable, but it is at the higher end of drugstore lipstick

New Lipstick on the Scene

Hey!

I have only very recently become a lipstick fan. I was always more of a 'slick of vaseline and you're good to go' girl but I have been lured!

A couple of years ago, my Nana bought me a lipstick for Christmas (I know it has probably expired, oops but I love it too much to part with) and it was promptly thrown in a draw, never to be looked at again. Until one night I was going out and fancied a lick of colour, I pulled out the lipstick (which was Bourjois Sweet Kiss) and never looked back.

I will admit to never putting much pressure on this lipstick and always diluting the colour down with vaseline at first but I slowly became more confident. This was when my eye began to stray to new shades and I spotted the Bourjois Rouge Edition lipsticks. Fuschia Graffiti 07 immediately caught my eye, and my room mate can vouch for me when I say that every time we went to town, I would drag her into Superdrug to drool over it.

Finally after about a month of swatching my hand every time I was in a mile vicinity of this lipstick, I have it in my possession and it has quite overshadowed my beloved first. I'm sorry!
