The Every Day Eye Look

Rimmel Quad- Smokey Brun

I've been trying to use my eye shadows more recently. I'm always drawn to them in stores; the different finishes and colours, soooo pretty. However I only ever really crack them out on special occasions. Enter the Rimmel Quad in Smokey Brun.

I picked this little gem up a while ago and thought it had the perfect colours in it for an everyday look. A starter kit for an eye shadow beginner like myself. No picking out colours that compliment each other as the work is done for you!

Encased in sleek but basic black packaging, this quad contains four shimmer eye shadows including a dark brown, a bronze, a cream and a light creamy brown (I wanted to describe this as the colour of almond milk but I don't know if anyone would know what I was on about! Anyone understand?). Plus the pigmentation, which can sometimes be the downfall of lighter coloured drug store eye shadows, is excellent for the price (£6.99).

How I've been using these colours is the bronze all over the lid and then the darker brown for some definition in the crease and outer corner. The other two colours could be used as an inner eye highlight (or as a base) but I feel like that looks weird on me. I believe thats because the lighter shades don't suit my skin tone as much. Check me talking about inner eye highlight though?! I'm trying to run before I can walk in the eye shadow department!!

Does anyone else struggle with eye shadow like myself? What are your favourites brands/shades?

Seventeen: The Complete Collection swatches

Seventeen Complete Collection

 photo image8_zpsbfdbbc3b.jpeg

I have been putting this post off for the longest time possible. If you haven't already guessed, it's swatches from the Seventeen Complete Collection that I blogged about a few weeks ago HERE. It's just such a bumper pack of make up, I was like waaah. Anyway I've finally plucked up the courage so here are the swatches!

Seventeen Complete Collection

I just want to cover the 'technical' things you get in this pack before I get onto what you all really want to see! You get eye lash curlers (which I'm yet to use because the thought of putting my eye lashes in there scares the beejezus out of me!) You also get a pencil sharpener, which is a pretty bog standard. It sharpens!

 photo photo3_zpsd64f7d32.jpg

As well as the technical bits, you get a photo ready primer, a mascara and a gel eye liner. I've only tried the primer on my hand so can't comment on the longevity but it really added a lovely smoothness to the skin so I can't wait to try that out properly! The mascara has a wand like the end of a spooley but is pretty standard. I had an idea what the duds would be, as is inevitable with this sort of pack, and the eye liner was one of them. I was pleasantly surprised when it was jet black and went on lovely with the angled brush provided.

seventeen brushes

The brushes (and eye shadows) are what initially drew me to this set as you could pay £17 for 2 brushes alone, let alone 5 with a ton of make up too. These are some of the softest brushes I've felt and although they haven't been washed yet, I am yet to encounter any shedding. My favourite brush is the fluffy eye brush (third down) which has been perfect for blending and buffing out eye shadow.

Finally, the eye shadows! I desperately wanted to provide names for these eyeshadows but there simply aren't any. They are shadows from the Metallic Toffee Trio, the Vengeance Trio and Peepshow Eye Palette. The solo shadows are Funfair, Style Queen, Spirit, Regal and Mardi Gras but I don't want to just guess which are which so here you are! They could have at least put them in order of which palette they are in but alas! All the shadows are velvety soft and give a good pay off. I expected some duds but to be honest, there really aren't any! The silvers/greys are on the less pigmented side but, as with all the shadows, can be built up. I think they'll be nice to add a bit of shimmer to a party look.

The eye pencils were another expected dud of mine but these were also lovely! I expected them to be hard and the black to be grey looking but they were as soft as butter. The coffee pencil is an almost gold and I can't wait to use it to warm up my brown eyes in the water line. The black was jet black but I can't, again, comment on longevity. My waterline is notorious for not keeping a colour there anyway! Damn you watery eyes!

My favourite shadow is the one on the far left. It's a lovely bronzey shimmer. I am a neutral girl at heart!

Finally the five lip colours! We have (left to right) Peachy, Pink Ice, Fuzzy Yellow Petal, Nude and Very Berry. The lip colours are nice but I can't see them getting much use.

This collection of make up was an absolute bargain at £17, even at full price, it's decent for what you are getting. It's such a shame the eye shadows aren't removable though because they'd be onto a winner there!

What are your favourite shades? I might do a Face of The Day using this make up. Is that something you'd like to see?

FOTD featuring Topshop's Beatnik lipstick

This was my Face of the Day today. I was only going into university for a few hours so I kept it very simple. I wouldn't usually wear eye shadow for uni, just a slick of eye liner and mascara but I had some extra time on my hands this morning so decided to add some neutrals into the mix

To achieve this look, I started off with my Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour foundation, mine is in 400 Natural Beige and my Real Techniques buffing brush. I find that this foundation can look a little orange for my taste so I will usually mix it with a little moisturiser to tone this down. I also find this helps the foundation to be more moisturising and not stick to dry patches as much.

Next I went in with my Collection (2000) Concealer in Medium 3. I applied this under my eyes with my fingers, I find it goes on best patted on. I also patted on a bit more foundation on any blemishes I had for a higher coverage.

For my eyes, I first put on a base of MUA's Colour Boost Eyeshadow Tint in A Girl Like Me. I wasn't keen on this product to start with as it seemed to have very little colour pay off on the eyes, despite looking lovely when swatched. I think it worked well as a base for this look though. On top of that, I put a sweep of Reveal from the MUA Undress Me Too palette, followed by Exposed in the outer corner. These shadows are quite light but I didn't want anything to heavy for today. I finished my eyes with a thin liquid liner (Soap and Glory Supercat) and W7 Lashtastic mascara.

I finished this look with Rimmel Natural Bronzer in 02 Sun Bronze all over the face and a swipe of Topshop's Beatnik on the lips (see review HERE)

I really liked this simple look! What make up did you wear today?

Seventeen Haul

Seventeen Complete Collection

Seventeen Complete Collection

Seventeen Complete Collection

Seventeen Complete Collection

I don't think this actually constitutes a haul, seeing as I only bought one item but there's a lot of make up in here so you'll let this one slide right? Thanks!

I picked up this gem for a mere £17 down from £35 when it was a star gift in Boots. In the run up to Christmas, Boots count it down with a star gift each week, usually with a great discount. This one was such great value, I couldn't resist. Early present for myself!

In this bumper pack you receive:
12 x SEVENTEEN Eyeshadows (Shades taken from Metallic Toffee Trio, Funfair, Peepshow Eye Palette, Vengeance Trio, Style Queen, Spirit, Regal and Mardi Gras. 23g total)
5 x SEVENTEEN Lip Glosses (Peachy, Pink Ice, Fuzzy Yellow Petal, Nude and Very Berry. 5g total)
SEVENTEEN Blusher (Bramble Frost )
Limited Edition SEVENTEEN Bronzer (7.5g)
Limited Edition SEVENTEEN Metallic Eye Cream (5.5g)
Limited Edition SEVENTEEN Gel Eyeliner
Limited Edition SEVENTEEN Black Mascara (8ml)
SEVENTEEN Black and Coffee Eye Pencils
SEVENTEEN Photo Flawless Primer (15ml)
5 x Make-up Brushes
Pencil Sharpener and
Eyelash Curler

PHEW! Like I said a lot of make up! I haven't tried any of these products out yet but look out for a follow up post with swatches and mini reviews! The only downside to this pack is the packaging, it's extremely cumbersome, no way this one is travelling with me! I'd have loved a removable eyeshadow palette but for the price I paid, I can't complain! Buy online HERE

Have you seen any of the star gifts in Boots? Will you treat yourself this Christmas or are you more restrained than me!

MUA Undress Me Too palette

Hey!

This post isn't a review, more of a 'I bought this and thought I'd share it with you' one.

MUA Undress Me Too

MUA Undress Me Too

MUA Undress Me Too

MUA Undress Me Too
From left to right: Corrupt, Obsessed, Wink, Naked, Devotion, Shy, Fiery, Lavish, Dreamy, Tranquil, Exposed, Reveal
Sorry for the photos, I didn't realise they were dark until after swatching!
Another product picked up for my sisters prom look (as well as for myself, as I get to keep it afterwards!), I thought these eye shadows would be perfect for the look. This palette has been said to be a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked palette so i was quite intrigued by it, despite not owning the UD one.
This palette has neutral creams and browns in it with one black. There are nine shimmer shades of varying shades of cream, taupe and brown and three matte shades. I think this palette has a good range of colours and the colour pay off is good for the price. There are a couple of dud colours like Lavish and Reveal, no attempt of building up could make these colours come up on the swatches; especially Reveal which shows just the tiniest shimmer at the end of the line. I picked up this palette from my local Superdrug for £4, so despite the duds I still think its worth a try! The bronzier colours being more pigmented.

My favourites are Shy, Fiery and Obsessed. Have you got this palette? What are your favourite shades?

Prom Look!

Hey!

Prom

My sister has trusted me to do her make up look for prom and I desperately don't want to let her down. I said in a recent post- LINK- that I bought the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze as a base colour for the look as she said she wanted a very neutral look. Olivia has very similar eyes to me in that she has quite droopy eye lids. This means that any colour on the lid has to be quite low, otherwise it simply won't show. I have tried to take the colour higher before but it just looks unusual so high above the crease. For that reason, I've kept the colour low and to very neutral shades. The above picture was a practice run and I would even say that it's too neutral as the colour barely shows on Olivia's skin tone.

I did a different look on each eye, with the left eye being more heavy make up and the right being more simplistic. Olivia preferred the simple one. I liked the simple one too eyeliner wise but think I will add more mascara or natural looking false lashes to make her eyes stand out more. As well as this, I'd go for a darker brown eyeshadow in the crease and build up the colour tattoo to make it show up more. Im using the MUA Undress Me Too palette as well for this look.

Since this practice run, Olivia decided that she wanted a cream coloured base instead of bronze so back to the drawing board! I'll have to play around with some more looks and see how they turn out.

Do you have any suggestions? What look did you go for for your prom?

First Impression: Maybelline Colour Tattoo

Maybelline Colour Tattoo On and On Bronze

Hey!

I've been trying to track down this cream eyeshadow for what feels like years! They had every other colour in stock but every time I went to look for On and On Bronze, all there was was a dried out tester. Finally in a small Boots near my Nana's, I was able to pick one up.

I wanted this product as I'm quite lazy with eyeshadow and wanted something to give a slight wash of colour to my lids. As well as this, I thought it would be perfect for my sister's prom look. For some reason, she's trusting me to do her make up! She wanted a neutral eye look as she didn't want to experiment with colour too much. I've posted a picture on Instagram of the look, and a blog post is pending. Since then, Olivia has decided she wants more of a cream base, so back to the drawing board!

My first use of this was for the above swatch, and I was really impressed with its staying power. I washed my hands thoroughly three or four times before any sign of product wearing showed. The shade is perfect for a neutral look or as a base for more eyeshadow. You can build the colour up to opacity or leave it as a slight shimmery look. Overall I was really impressed, and am thinking of picking up another colour, either Eternal Gold or Permanent Taupe.

Have you tried this product? What did you think? Check out my Instagram! @alexgeorgie_

Soap and Glory "Tricks of the Shade" Review

Hey!

Today I'll be reviewing the Soap and Glory "Tricks of the Shade" Eye Palette for you!

This eye palette comes with a double ended brush and a "Supercat" liquid black eyeliner pen. I love Soap and Glory packaging on a whole with its vintage pictures and quirky sayings. This particular palette is in a strong cardboard case which includes a very large mirror on the inside. Its not really travel friendly (e.g. can't throw it in your handbag) however at home or if travelling for a long time, the mirror is perfect.

I like the eye liner pen. I use it when I've put on eye shadow and don't want eye shadow all over my normal eye liner. It's a jet black and the pen makes it very easy to apply, especially as I'm really liking winged eye liner again

My favourite shades have to be Wild Blue, Dandy Plum and Minky.
However I do have some criticism of this shades. I find that the colours aren't highly pigmented meaning you have to put on quite a lot for them to show. I prefer using my own brush as the brush supplied tends to eat the eye shadow so you're having to use even more.
I think they'd work a lot better with a primer which I didn't use when I wore them.

I would recommend this palette to anyone who has the patience to build up the colours as they really are gorgeous shades.
